First in the series on art and observation, this talk features Gabby Lichauco, founder and curator of NEWFOLK, a creative platform for designers, artists and producers that exhibit innovation in the use of homegrown mediums. In 2005, he established his design firm, Openstudio, a multi-disciplinary design practice based in Manila, Philippines. His talk on the relation of object and material, and the importance of using multidisciplinary approaches will touch on the challenge of collecting materials and their transformation, and the role research or observation plays.

About the Speaker

Lichauco holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Design from Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan, Italy. He founded openstudio in 2005, and Emi handmade in 2010. While in Milan, he actively participated in several projects with Artimede, Microsoft Italy, Piquadro and Irsap. His local projects include product, furniture and interior design.
