Rules and Guidelines
Brief
The MCAD Museum of Contemporary Art and Design is perceived to be the professional face of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the area of arts and culture. It is where the College’s diverse facets come together to witness the core strength of their units through creative enterprise. Housed on the ground floor of the SDA Campus, MCAD serves as a think-tank for the production of ideas as it sets the standards in the exhibition of contemporary art.
The 520 square meters of MCAD is a creative platform for creative conversation and collaboration. It commits itself to advance the College’s art education by hosting exhibitions, discussions, projects, lectures and master classes. In 2012, MCAD will hold a museum logo design competition open to all members of the Benildean community to produce a logo that captures the core idea of MCAD’s ambitions and objectives.
Objectives
This competition aims to challenge Benildean creatives to capture the identity, essence and purpose of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design into a logo that is compelling and timeless. Its goal is to generate a logo design for MCAD which will be used in signages, collaterals, website, merchandise, office communication and other applications. The competition also aims to be a professional platform upon which the creative and professional mettle of the Benildean is to be evaluated.
Eligibility
The competition is open to all students, faculty and personnel of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Interested parties must be enrolled or employed in DLS-CSB during the duration of the competition.
Submission
All submissions must comply with the specifications stated below. A registration form will be available at the MCAD office beginning 3 February 2012. You may also download the form from http://www.mediafire.com/?9ppbt0b8g0jr15z Please print it out and submit together with your CD. Deadline for submission of entries is 16 April 2012, 6:30 p.m.
Specifications
1. A single image file including both black and white and color versions of logo on a white background (no transparency), in either .jpg, .png or .tif format, placed in an 8×11 or letter-size format with a resolution of 300 dpi.
2. A single multi-page pdf set for high resolution, containing the following in this order and with the following page restrictions:
Page 1: logo in color
Page 2: logo in black and white
Page 3&4: logo shown in use:
1. webpage
2. catalogue
3. invitation
4. letterhead
5. merchandise (1 or 2 examples)
6. banner and façade signage
7. business cards
Page 5: documentation (summary description or explanation of logo symbolism, designer’s concept and intent)
Page 6: CV and short biographic information of designer
3. All these files must be burned in a CD and submitted to MCAD together with the registration form. MCAD is located at the Ground Floor, DLS-CSB School of Design And Arts Campus, 950 P. Ocampo St., Malate, Manila.

Jury Composition, Selection of Finalists and Awarding of Winner
MCAD will invite a distinguished panel of artists and design professionals to review the submissions and select a winner. Shortlisted entries will be announced two weeks after the deadline of submission of entries. The winner will be awarded immediately after. Please note that the CVs and biographies of the participants will not be available to the panelists.
The winning designer will be awarded Php 50,000.
Acceptance
Inclusion into the competition constitutes the Participant’s full and unconditional agreement to its Official Rules and Guidelines and any laws governing Intellectual Property Rights. By joining the Competition, the participant is representing and warranting that he/she has read and understood, and agrees to be bound by, these rules. These Official Rules and Guidelines constitute the entire agreement between the participant, DLS-CSB and MCAD in relation to the Competition. Once the winning design is announced, all copyright, ownership, right of alteration, and right of use will belong to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and its Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD).
Intellectual Property
All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design. By joining this competition the participant guarantees that his/her work is original. By entering this competition, the designer assigns the rights to De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and its Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) to use each submission for promotion of the Competition, the College or MCAD. However, unless a submission is selected as the winner, each designer retains all intellectual property considerations associated with their submission. The winning entry will be registered by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and its Museum of Contemporary Art and Design as a Trademark and the designer agrees to transfer all right and title to the Entry to DLS-CSB and MCAD.
Representations and Warranties
By joining the Competition, the participant warrants and represents in connection with the Entry submitted that: (a) he/she is the sole and exclusive owner of (and free of any adverse claim by any person, firm, or corporation) all intellectual property rights in and to the Entry; (b) the Entry is original and the use of the Entry as described in these Official Rules and Guidelines will not infringe the proprietary rights, including without limitation the intellectual property rights, of any third party; (c) the use of the Entry, as described in these Official Rules and Guidelines, will be in compliance with any third-party licenses pertaining to the Entry; (d) the Entry is not obscene or libelous, and does not violate any rights of any third party, including but not limited to rights of privacy or publicity; (e) the Entry does not contain any virus, spyware, malware, trap door, worm, or any other device, mechanism or code that is injurious or damaging to software or hardware used in conjunction with the Entry; (f) the Entry and its use as described in these Official Rules and Guidelines will not violate any national or local laws or ordinances; (g) no employer or educational or other establishment has any rights in the Entry; (h) the Entry is consistent with these Official Rules and Guidelines and subscribes to the stated specifications; and (i) he/she has the right to grant the license to DLS-CSB and MCAD as required in these Official Rules and Guidelines.
Indemnity, Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability
By joining the Competition, the participant agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and Guidelines, including all eligibility requirements. By joining the Competition, the participant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless DLS-CSB and MCAD from any and all liability, claims, or actions of any kind, including, without limitation to property damage, personal injury, and/or death, arising out of his/her (i) breach of any representation, warranty or covenant contained in these Official Rules and Guidelines; or (ii) participation in the Competition; (iii) acceptance and/or use or misuse of any prize in connection with the Competition; or (iv) any third party claim relating to any rights in any design submitted.
By joining the Competition, the participant agrees that DLS-CSB and MCAD is not responsible, and will in no event be held liable, for any lost, late, illegible, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, corrupted or entries.
De La Salle College of Saint Benilde and its Museum of Contemporary Art and Design reserves the right to disqualify any unauthorized entries.
