On 6 June, The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) will open the exhibition entitled The Surface of the World.

The exhibition, curated by Clare Carolin, former curator at the ModernArt Oxford, the National Touring Exhibitions, and Hayward Gallery, London, brings together the fields of architecture and film for the first time under one roof, giving students and the general public a great opportunity to study the range of technology in both fields and to see its ever-widening influence in society. The exhibition will feature artworks that are all video-based, working within the idea of the moving image, and investigates a range of practices from video works and installations to that of shorts and full-length films.

The Surface of the World will bring together twelve artists, ranging from British, Filipino, Polish, and German nationalities, coming from the lines of art video practitioners and filmmakers, such as Saskia Olde Wolbers and John Smith, and all of whom are well-known in the international art world. Several of the artists have taken part in major international exhibitions, such as Tacita Dean and John Gerrard, both of whom have participated in the Venice Biennale, while other artists have won major awards for their works, such as Thai artist Apichatpong Weeraseethakul, winner of the Palm d’Or in the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, and British artist Elizabeth Price, winner of the prestigious Turner Prize, 2012.

The Surface of the World will open on 6 June, Friday, and run until 27 August.
